ONLINE CLASS: The Power of Value
Pat Fiorello
March 24
$75
In the words of famed artist Sergei Bongart, “No amount of good painting can save a bad composition”. Value is one of the most powerful tools an artist has to create a strong composition. Understanding how to observe, arrange, and control value is a critical skill for every painter to master.
In this 3-hour Zoom session, which is suitable for all painting mediums, watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylics, Pat will share why value (the lightness or darkness of a shape) is so important and how to strengthen your own skills in this area.
You will learn 7 different ways value impacts your paintings. Pat will share practical ways and tools you can use to build your skills for seeing, using, and depicting values to your advantage. The difference between a NOTAN and a value sketch will be addressed, and you’ll see how master artists have used value to design strong works of art.
Pat will do a live demonstration showing the process of going from the spark of inspiration to creating thumbnail sketches and a value sketch to design a strong composition and plan for your painting. This will help you to go beyond just copying photos to intentionally creating a painting of your own design.
