Testimonials:
Great class, so much to be thankful for in the class, participants are wonderful, Pat Moore is always so cheerful, the Instructor is knowledgeable and helpful in aiding in growth as a student of watercolor and line drawing. – JP, 2025
Expressive Watercolor through Line and Blob has been an inspiration for me as our teacher/artist extraordinaire, Marc Josloff, inspires us to develop our skills and find joy and love in our work. The collaborative nature of this class, which encourages everyone to assist everyone else as we critique each other’s work, is unique. While this might sound daunting, it is not. There is true support between us all. Thanks, Marc, and thanks to my fellow students. I learn from you all. – MM, 2025
While this is an online Zoom class, it has been a wonderful experience with a most professional, l empathetic, and spirited teacher. Marc enables all students to participate at their own level of expertise without fear or feelings of inadequacy. He builds a strong rapport with each student and helps them to increase their abilities in a safe, secure, and supportive environment. Not only do we learn from Marc’s wonderful demonstrations, but also from the critiques that are integrated into each class. Marc’s wide-ranging expertise, knowledge, and wisdom that he imparts so generously are a treat for us students. I know it has enabled me to feel confident, improve, and love Watercolor. Thank you seems not enough, Marc. – MM, 2024
Marc Josloff is an amazing artist and teacher. I have learned so much from him in these online sessions. He is dedicated to demonstration and also spends time out of class examining and providing detailed input for each student’s work at whatever level they are at. Unlike many other teachers from whom I’ve taken workshops, Marc respects and wants you to develop your own unique voice. Rather than wanting your work to look like his, he looks at the principles he is teaching and responds to how you have incorporated these concepts, tools, and techniques into your own work. He also gives examples of the principles and techniques being used by other artists. My work has evolved tremendously since I began these workshops with Marc. The classes are friendly and welcoming to newcomers and appropriate for artists who are just beginning their journey or those with more painting and pen miles. And the Il Chiostro staff member, Pat, who helps with the online technology, is also incredible. I highly recommend any workshops you can take with Marc Josloff. And a huge thank you to Michael and Linda for providing these opportunities to continue learning online. – BC 2024

Marc Josloff's Artist's Statement:
As an artist, I am strongly influenced by those art modalities that have moved me: impressionism, post-impressionism, expressionism, fauvism, the art of the nabis, Japanese woodcuts, and you can add in constructivism and even classicism. I guess I'm a bit of an artistic anachronism. (lots of 'isms')..And yet I am also a creature of today's world, so I can't help but reflect on both the past and present in my work.
Yet the objective for me is not to emulate past art or contemporary, but to imbue my work with pathos, whether my subject be a street dweller or a head of cabbage, because that is what connects us...as vulnerable human beings.
