ONLINE CLASS: Elegant Still Life in Soft Pastel

In this two-hour online class, participants will paint an elegant still life using soft pastels, guided through the process from start to finish. The instructor will demonstrate techniques for composition, value, and layering color, with time to complete one pastel painting during the class.
This class welcomes artists of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Students will work with professional-quality soft pastels and pastel papers that can receive water-based media, using watercolor underpainting to establish structure and depth. Emphasis is placed on observation, expressive mark-making, and developing confidence with soft pastels.
Materials Needed:
- Soft pastels (Sennelier, Schminke, or other high-quality soft pastels)
- Pastel paper suitable for water-based media (Pastelmat or Canson Mi-Teintes Velvet recommended)
- Watercolor paint, including Burnt Sienna (required)
Class Date: March 7th, 2026
Time: 12:00 – 2:00 pm EST (that is 11:00 am Central, 10:00 am Mountain, and 9:00 am Pacific).
Class Length: 2 hours, including critique.

Liz Amacher’s creative journey began at an early age, starting with pen and ink and graphite, and later expanding into watercolor and pastels. Since moving to Colorado in 2016, Liz has fully embraced her passion for art, reconnecting with her creativity and exhibiting her work in a variety of regional and international juried shows. As a lifelong learner, Liz continuously seeks out new techniques and learning opportunities to expand both her artistic practice and her leadership skills.
Currently, Liz teaches weekend workshops at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, where she enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for art with others. She lives in Colorado with her husband, Mike, and their energetic Border Collie, Ruby. Liz remains committed to blending her love of art with her work in education, always seeking new ways to inspire creativity and personal growth in both students and colleagues alike.
