Unwrapping the Gift of Creativity – Lynn Travis Stender

Artist and Il Chiostro instructor Lynn Travis Stender

Lynn knew from age five that she wanted to be a painter. She and her sister always played with crayons and paper, so it’s not surprising that she became a professional artist and teacher. Lynn loves working with children because they are free and unafraid to explore. Adults often judge themselves, and she tries to help her students recapture the joy of childhood creativity and having fun without fear. As a teacher, she helps students learn to see first, then paint, and helps unwrap the gift of creativity that exists in all of us.

Lynn first visited Italy with her grandparents at 13 and was never the same. After seeing her grandparent’s hometown and visiting every museum possible, she knew she wanted to learn all she could about the country. Lynn finds a strong sense of being in Italy and an understanding of how everything in her life started. When she is plein air painting among olive groves or medieval buildings, she feels the presence of the artistic master, and it feeds her soul. She knows that once students experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the place, they will be forever changed as people and painters.

This year, Lynn will host a painting workshop in Tuscany during the Autumn Arts Festival in October. Lynn has always felt a passion for working with students, and she can’t wait to see how everyone grows as artists, makes new connections and friendships, and, maybe, discovers something new about themselves while painting under the Italian sky.

Lynn is originally from the Northeast and received a Fine Arts Degree in Illustration and Design from Marymount University, Arlington, Virginia. She captures mood and light in her subject matter through her Plein Air approach to painting. As Resident-Artist of the Boca Raton Resort and Club, Lynn has been teaching painting workshops for over 15 years. She is deeply committed to encouraging her students to fully explore their creativity and self-expression.
