Il Chiostro workshops show you the real Italy, and we strive to make your experience with us as easy and seamless as possible. This includes providing you with the most up-to-date information about entering Italy in 2022. The following information was updated on April 19, 2022, and we will continue to edit this post as new information is made available.
Italy is open, and we can’t wait for you to experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of our favorite place. With incredible food, fantastic wine, historical treasures, and beautiful, unspoiled countryside, it’s no surprise that visitors are clamoring to visit Italy after two long years of caution and travel restrictions. As one of the first and hardest-hit countries, Italy has been vigilant in handling the pandemic and slower than some EU counties to welcome back visitors.
Fortunately, COVID cases continue to decrease or lessen in severity, and the Italian government has followed the advice of medical experts to start removing many of the longstanding COVID-19 requirements.
Of course, some restrictions remain, and passengers from the U.S. must fulfill specific requirements before entering the country.
According to the U.S. State Department, U.S. citizens may now enter Italy if they are asymptomatic AND meet the following requirements:
- Visitors from the United States must complete a Passenger Locator Form and a Self-Declaration Form before boarding a plane to Italy.
- Present a valid vaccination certificate with the last dose taken at least 14 days before arrival. In addition, visitors must present a certificate of a completed initial vaccination cycle finished within the past nine months (no more than 270 days) or show documentation of receiving a booster shot. Accepted vaccines include Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Novavax.
- OR present a medical certificate confirming recovery from COVID, valid for six months from recovery.
- OR present a negative molecular PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival or a rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours of arrival.
- Anyone who doesn’t meet these standards must quarantine for five days and then test negative before starting their vacation.
